Case study

Initial Situation:

In 2016, an internationally recognized company in the aerospace business was looking for a long-term training partner who would be able to provide PMI’s® PMP® certification trainings to their employees based in Germany, France, Spain and the UK. The general goal was to train and prepare the project managers for a successful exam, uplift the company’s competences in terms of professional project management and harmonize the way projects were managed among the different entities. The specifications of the demand were as follows:

Blended learning approach where project managers could benefit from self-paced learning (e-Learning) and trainers’ expertise and support.

Create a program suitable for groups of 12 to 15 participants (max) in order to provide individual support

Training and communication language should be English

Entirely virtual environment in order to train people from different locations

Creation of a collaborative training space where people could exchange and benefit from other colleagues’ experiences, while focusing on the certification exam preparation.

The aim was to train in average 60 people per year

Why STS was chosen:

In order to cope with the challenges the company was facing, STS proposed an entirely virtual blended-learning PMP® preparation training. The training consists of virtual classrooms which occur once a week during 6 weeks. Each one is dedicated to specific themes according to PMI®, but also with inputs from the trainer who has over 15 years of experience in not only teaching, but especially also leading projects and therefor is able to give the necessary “real-life” aspects. The trainer has a crucial role in assessing the candidates’ weaknesses and pushing them in order to obtain the certification in the shortest time possible. On top of the virtual classrooms, candidates receive access to our Learning Management Platform, where they have an e-Learning course and an exam simulator. Both are accessible 24/7 and are an important learning support. One of the key success factors of the training is also the so called “active help”, where candidates can benefit from personalized one-to-one conversations with the trainer in order to deepen certain subjects and eliminate all doubts regarding the exam.

Current situation

Since the two pilot courses in 2016, STS has been working with this company and has successfully trained and helped hundreds of collaborators to pass the exam. The main goals were attained and the feedbacks from the candidates are very positive. Due to its virtual character, the Covid-Crisis did not impact the training delivery. The internal demand for this training has increased and more trainings have been planned.
